Hamza Ali Abbasi turned down Reham’s evidence and uploaded his part of evidence; his conversation with Reham Khan, including printouts of her emails with PML-N's leader Ahsan Iqbal – which were later deleted for a re-post.It is pertinent to mention here that Reham has challenged a lawsuit against him.

Two Rangers men injured in gun, bomb attack in Karachi

KARACHI: Two Rangers personnel have been injured in a gun and bomb attack in Karachi, Geo reported on Saturday evening. The attack took place shortly after iftar during snap checking near Hub Chowki.According to sources, the attackers opened fire at Rangers personnel after the bomb attack. It appears to be a suicide attack, according to Rangers’ spokesman. "We are waiting for details of the attack," the spokesman added. This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.

Caretaker PM asks law ministry to challenge nomination papers verdict

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk has directed the federal law ministry to file an appeal against Lahore High Court’s yesterday verdict to nullify election nomination papers. According to sources close to the Prime Minister office, the decision has been taken to make sure elections are not delayed. Apart from the caretaker PM, ECP, PPP, PTI and former NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq have voiced alarm at the decision, fearing it might result in election's delay. "We have decided to challenge the decision in the the Supreme Court," Additional Secretary ECP Akhtar Nazeer told reporters in Islamabad after a meeting, presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza Khan.Talking to media persons, Ayaz Sadiq said that he too would approach the apex court. Separately, PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry expressed his concern at the LHC’s verdict, saying that elections must be held as per schedule. “Only yesterday, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has given a statement to hold the elections on time, and yet the LHC has given such a verdict,” Chaudhry said.

Imran asks aspiring candidates not to give money for PTI?s ticket

ISLAMABAD: PTI chairman Imran Khan said that he would himself decide the awarding of tickets to potential candidates in the coming general elections. In a Twitter message, Khan has asked aspiring candidates not to give money to anyone in the PTI in return for the election ticket. The PTI chief shared a phone number to report to his party in case someone from his party asks for money for the ticket. “Any PTI mbr who asks for money from a prospective candidate in return for a PTI ticket; or anyone you know who gives money in order to get favoured for a PTI ticket must be reported to the Party by calling this no: 0303 5375113. I will be deciding the final allocation of tickets,” he said.In the previous general elections, some PTI leaders were accused of taking money in return for the party’s tickets.

ECP rules out poll delay

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that it would go to the Supreme Court against the recent decisions of Balochistan and Lahore high courts regarding delimitation and nomination papers. “Returning officers have been asked not to accept any nomination paper on June 3 and 4. A new schedule will be issued after the Supreme Court’s verdict,” ECP Additional Secretary Akhtar Nazeer told media persons.He admitted that the election schedule announced by the commission might be affected by two to three days.The ECP official, however, said that general elections would be held on July 25. Earlier, the commission held an urgent meeting to review the Lahore High Court’s annulment of changes in nomination papers and Balochistan High Court's rejection of delimitation of eight constituencies in Quetta. Speaking to journalists ahead of the meeting, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob said the Commission had received the LHC decision on the nomination forms.

Shehbaz Sharif suggests new names for caretaker Punjab CM

LAHORE: PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has suggested four new names for the post of caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. The nominees are: former Naval chief Muhamamd Zakaullah, former DG Intelligence Bureau (IB) Aftab Sultan, Justice (r) Sahir Ali and former IG Punjab Tariq Saleem Dogar.According to Geo, Shehbaz consulted former prime minister Nawaz Sharif during a party’ meeting at Model Town before making the names public on Saturday. According to sources, PML-N’s leaders discussed the political situation and potential names for the caretaker CM. “The names proposed will be forwarded to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI),” Shehbaz Sharif told Geo. “PTI should consider our names and we will consider theirs, who knows may be we reach a consensus in the first meeting,” Shehbaz further said.A meeting is expected between Shehbaz and former leader of opposition in the Punjab Assembly Mehmood-ur-Rasheed within the next two days in a bid to evolve a consensus. But if deadlock persists, , the matter will be resolved by a parliamentary committee as per the law.On Friday, Rasheed presented the names of Orya Maqbool Jan, Yaqub Izhar, and Hassan Askari for the top slot. Shortly afterwards, PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry later took to twitter to announce the candidates proposed as caretaker CM which did not include Orya's name. Reham Khan accuses actor Hamza Abbasi of emailing threats

ISLAMABAD: Reham Khan, former wife of PTI chairman Imran Khan, has accused film and TV star Hamza Ali Abbasi of issuing threats. In a Twitter message on Saturday, Reham Khan said that she had been receiving threatening email from the actor since 2017. She did not elaborate further about the nature of threats. The former TV host, who parted ways with Imran Khan less than a year after her marriage the PTI chairman, said that bullies was trying to silence here. Reham has moved to UK, where is awaiting the publishing of her book. “Hamza Abbasi claims he has read manuscript when it's not been published? Only possible through fraud or theft,” she said.Abbasi is one of the most vocal supporters of the PTI and freely expresses his support for Imran Khan's party.

Seven Pakistani peacekeepers honoured with UN medals posthumously

UNITED NATIONS, United States: The United Nations at a solemn ceremony has honoured 128 military, police and civilian personnel from 38 countries, including seven Pakistanis, who lost their lives while serving in peacekeeping operations during 2017.Friday’s ceremony marked the annual International Day of Peacekeepers during which the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal was awarded posthumously to the peacekeepers who have given their lives for the cause of peace, during the preceding year.This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of UN Peacekeeping, the world body’s flagship enterprise described by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as “a proven investment in global peace, security and prosperity.”Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, accepted the awards on behalf of the families of the seven fallen Pakistani peacekeepers.They are: Sepoy Hazrat BILAL, Naik Abdul GHAFOOR and Naik Muhammad ALI who were deployed with the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA); Sepoy Muhammad Ishtiaq ABBASI, Sepoy Tariq JAVED, and Naik Atta Ur REHMAN who served with the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO); and Sepoy Yasir ABBAS from the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID).Pakistan is one of largest contributors of uniformed personnel to UN Peacekeeping. It currently contributes nearly 6,000 military and police personnel to the UN peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Mali, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan and Western Sahara.In his remarks, the secretary-general, who led a moment of silence to remember the fallen peacekeepers, expressed his “deepest condolences and appreciation” to the family members and friends of those who died, as well as his “deepest sorrow and greatest appreciation” to the countries that contributed the troops and police officers.

Disgruntled PML-N leader Zulfiqar Khosa joins PTI

Pakistan Navy signs contract to acquire two modern warships from China

ISLAMABAD: Contract for acquisition of two warships for Pakistan Navy was signed with M/s China Shipbuilding Trading Company Ltd (CSTC), at Ministry of Defence Production, Rawalpindi.Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Rear Admiral Faisal Rasul Lodhi was also present on the occasion. With the conclusion of this contract, Pakistan Navy will now have a total of four Type-054 A ships in its Fleet by 2021. The induction of these Ships will substantially enhance Pakistan Navy’s war fighting capabilities while effectively contributing towards Maritime Security Operations in the region. Type-054 A is an extremely potent and state of the art warship equipped with latest weapons including long range missiles and Hi-tech sensors, capable to undertake operations in all domains of naval warfare. The acquisition of these modern ships is certainly a value addition in Pakistan Navy which is an ardent defenders of National Maritime Interests of Pakistan.
