PTI Lahore rally: Punjab govt condemns Rana Sanaullah?s misogynist remarks

LAHORE: The Punjab government has distanced itself and condemned the misogynist and inappropriate remarks of provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah about women who attended Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Lahore rally.Talking to Geo News, Punjab Government Spokesman Malik Ahmad Khan said the law minister should not have used such remarks for women and we must avoid using dirty language in politics. Sanaullah on Monday said the PTI had brought professional male and female entertainers to dance at the event. “The crowd at the PTI rally was traditional daily wagers. The families and the women that came with the dream of a change on October [30, 2011] appeared to have lost faith in Imran Khan’s politics of turncoats and obsession for power and therefore didn’t show up at all.”His remarks were widely condemned and created an uproar on social media. The Punjab minister, who is known for his outrageous comments against rivals, said the PML-N would field the top party leadership against the turncoats and the agents to slap an exemplary defeat in their face.He said PTI Chairman Imran Khan had disappointed the millions who had rallied behind him in a hope for a change, but Imran proved himself as a symbol of ‘agenda’ instead of a symbol of change.

Indian lawmaker wants portrait of Quaid-e-Azam removed from Aligarh Muslim University

New Delhi: A lawmaekr from India's ruling party demanded Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) remove portrait of Pakistan's founding father installed in the Students Union office. In letter addressed to the Aligarh Muslim University V-C Tariq Masnoor, BJP MP Satish Gautam said "“It is fine if Jinnah has been revered in Pakistan after Partition. But his portrait should not be put up here in India,”. He said instead of putting Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah's portrait , the university should celebrate the  contributions of Raja Mahendra Pratap and Sir Syyed Ahmed who played a crucial role in establishing the university.According to university officials, the portrait was installed in 1938 before Partition, at the peak of Muslim League campaign for a separate nation for the Muslims of India.Reacting to the demand, Students Union has said Jinnah and  many other pre-Partition leaders were  conferred honorary membership of the university and their portraits have been installed in the campus since 1920.“Jinnah’s portrait was installed when he was conferred life membership (of the Students’ Union) in 1938. AMU has many things from the pre-Partition era like the Victoria Gate. Should that be brought down as well?” asked former AMU Students’ Union president Faizul Hasan.“It is a tradition since 1920 to honour people of eminence with life membership. AMU first conferred it on Mahatma Gandhi in 1920 and on Jinnah in 1938" AMU spokesman Omar Peerzada told a news channel.

India, Pakistan revive Track II diplomacy: report

The government of Narendra Modi is reluctant to engage with Pakistan officially but recently ‘agreed to reviving the Track II diplomacy process with Islamabad’, Times of India reported Tuesday. The newspaper reported: “The original Track II initiative, Neemrana Dialogue, received a fresh start with a high-powered delegation of former Indian diplomats, military veterans and academics travelling to Pakistan to discuss ways to improve India-Pak relationship”.The Indian delegation was headed by former external affairs secretary and Pakistan expert Vivek Katju. J S Rajput, former NCERT head, was also part of the delegation. The talks took place from April 28 to 30. Pakistan was represented by former foreign secretary Inam ul Haque and Ishrat Hussain among others.‘Neemrana is also a non-governmental dialogue but it is different from others in that both foreign ministries have in the past associated themselves with it,’ it further added.Quoting sources, the report said India will wait to see the outcome of the upcoming elections in Pakistan before taking any call on official talks with Islamabad. ‘To many though the revival of Neemrana would suggest that the policy of not having any engagement with Pakistan has run its course.’
