General Bajwa was ranked 68 among 75 people as per the magazine.General Bajwa is Pakistan’s 10th army chief and recipient of Nishan-e-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz. Forbes' annual ranking of The World’s Most Powerful People identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most," the magazine said.It should also be noted that Pakistan’s then army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and ISI chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam also made it to the Forbes Most Powerful People List in 2012.

Nawaz says NAB is acting beyond its powers
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz supreme leader Nawaz Sharif on Thursday commended prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for his speech delivered in the parliament in which he took an exception to the chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).Speaking to media at the Accountability Court, Nawaz Sharif accused the anti-graft watchdog of acting beyond its powers. He said Pervez Musharraf had introduced the NAB law to fulfill his agenda."The law introduced by a dictator should have been abolished. Now is the time to decide whether the laws introduced by dictators would rule the country or the ones made by the democratic governments .Commenting on his trial in the accoutability court, he said the NAB would have come up with evidence against him in the first 10 days after the trial began but the anti-corruption watch had nothing to produce. "This trial would keep getting extension until NAB finds evidence," said he.While giving his reason as to why he failed to do away with the laws he has been criticising, he said he was focused on the development and welfare projects and couldn't turn his attention. He said he would address an emergency press conference at the Punjab House today to discuss the money laundering allegations levelled recently against him."There are reports on social media that reason behind Titanic's sinking has been found, and Nawaz Sharif is likely to be summoned in this regard," he said sarcastically.

LAHORE: PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto said that South Punjab would be carved out of Punjab as a separate province by his party. “We will make South Punjab a separate province if our PPP comes into power,” Bilawal told media persons in Lahore. The PPP leader also took a swipe at the leaders of Janoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz (JPSM), which announced its merger with the PTI. “Where had they been until now? Why didn’t they raise the demand while they were in power for five years? He said that Nawaz Sharif was trying to put the entire system at state.

SC extends timeframe to conclude graft cases against Sharif family till June 9
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday granted a one month extension to the Accountability Court (AC) of Islamabad to conclude references against former prime minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his family till June 9. A two-member SC bench headed chaired by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed heard the plea moved by AC Judge Mohammed Bashir seeking second three-month extension in the deadline to conclude the cases. The last deadline given by the apex court is May 12. During the course of proceedings, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, being the monitoring judge of the references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in pursuance to the SC verdict in the Panama Papers case, inquired from the counsels of the litigants that as to why the trials had not yet been concluded.NAB prosecutor Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi informed the bench that the trial in one reference regarding the Avenfield property had been concluded from their side.Justice Ahsan then asked whether the verdict in the reference in which arguments had been concluded, would be given separately from the other two references or the decision in all the references would be delivered at the same time.Khawaja Haris, counsel for Nawaz Sharif, replied that the trial court had already decided that it would announce the verdict in all three references on the same day.To a bench query, Khawaja Haris apprised the court that at least three months should be given for a fair trial. As the holy month of Ramazan was around the corner, a three-month extension should be given, he added.Justice Azmat observed that the counsel could come to them again if the trial would not conclude in a month, however, there would be no compromise on delivering justice.Justice Ahsan remarked that the rights of the accused would be safeguarded at all costs and cited Article 10-A of the Constitution. The accountability court is hearing three references pertaining to Avenfield London property, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments filed by the NAB against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.Earlier in March, the top court had granted the two-month extension in original six-month deadline to the trial court for wrapping up the cases.

South Punjab defections an election ploy: PML-N MNA
ISLAMABAD: PML-N’s MNA Maiza Hameed on Wednesday questioned the timing and motive of fellow politicians from South Punjab who had walked away from the ruling party and joined Imran Khan-led PTI. Scores of politicians, including MNAs and MPAs, joined PTI after striking a written deal with Imran Khan that his party, if came into power, would establish South Punjab province within the first 100 days of his government. The group, called Janoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz, formally announced it merger into the PTI. “Why didn’t Khusro Bakhtiar raise his voice for South Punjab province when he was a part of the PML-MN? Where had he been for the past five years?” she questioned. “I myself belong to Rahimyar Khan and according to my knowledge and information, more funds have been allocated to schools and hospitals in South Punjab,” she said.Daanish schools were mostly set up in the southern belt of the province, she said, adding that hospitals built in Rahimyar Khan were treating patients even from Sindh as the city was close to the border. “These people were in PML-N for five years and not once they mentioned that South Punjab was faced with sense of deprivation,” Ms Hameed said. The MNA from Rahimyar Khan said that Janoobi Punjab Sooba Mahaz and its merger into the PTI was an election ploy. “They remained in the party as long as they were getting development funds for their respective areas,” she added.

US?s withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal to undermine dialogue, diplomacy: Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: A day after US President Donald Trump pulled out of the Iran nuclear dear, Pakistan said that the move would undermine confidence in the value of dialogue and diplomacy.“Pakistan believes that International Treaties and Agreements concluded through painstaking negotiations are sacrosanct. Arbitrarily rescinding such agreements will undermine confidence in the value of dialogue and diplomacy in the conduct of international relations and the peaceful resolution of disputes,” according to a press release issued by the Foreign Office on Wednesday. It said that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) represents a very good example of a negotiated settlement of complex issues, through dialogue and diplomacy. “We had welcomed the JCPOA when it was concluded and hope that all parties will find a way for its continuation, especially when the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly verified Iran's compliance.” “We have noted the willingness of the parties to the Agreement to work together on upholding their respective commitments as stipulated in the JCPOA, despite US decision to withdraw from it.”
