Martyred Colonel Sohail laid to rest with full military honour

RAWALPINDI: Colonel Sohail Abid of Military Intelligence (MI), who was martyred during intense exchange of fire with militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Killi Almas area of Balochistan, has been laid to rest with full military honour.According to Inter Services Public Relations, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and a large number of senior civil and military officers, soldiers, and relatives of the martyr attended the funeral.Col Abid was buried in Bobari near Bara Kahu with full military honour.Speaking on the occasion, the Army Chief said “When a soldier sacrifices his life I lose part flesh of my body, that night is always difficult to pass. But we remain fully determined to sacrifice anything and everything for the defence of our motherland.”Security forces late on Wednesday carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Killi Almas area of Balochistan, killing a high value target of LeJ involved in assassinations of over 100 innocent people of Hazara Community and police personnel.Three militants were killed in the firefight that erupted, including Salman Badeni, the provincial commander of the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ). While two of the killed terrorists were suicide bombers belonged to Afghanistan, said ISPR.During intense exchange of fire, Colonel Sohail Abid of Military Intelligence embraced martyrdom, the ISPR further said in its statement, besides injuries to four soldiers.Security forces have recovered a huge cache of munitions belonging to the terrorists killed the in the operation.

US has assured action against Col Joseph: FO

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office spokesman Dr Mohammad Faisal said that US defence attaché Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall involved in a fatal accident was allowed to leave Pakistan due to diplomatic immunity. “The US has assured us that it will initiate criminal/administrative action against Col. Joseph in US courts,” the spokesman said in his weekly media briefing.On the question regarding blood money in the case of Colonel Joseph, he said he has no information and asked media to contact Ministry of Interior for details. The spokesman said that this unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India was continuing from the year 2017, when the Indian forces committed 1970 ceasefire violations.“The deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is indeed deplorable and contrary to human dignity, international human rights and humanitarian laws. The ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation,” he said. “We also condemn the unlawful detention of the Hurriyet leaders including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Massrat Alam Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Dr. Qasim Fakhtoo, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Meraj-ud-din Kalwal, Farooq Ahmad Dar, 55-year-old, Syeda Aasiya Andrabi, Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen, as well as students and youth who are languishing in different jails of occupied Kashmir and in India."He said that the Government and people of Pakistan stand firmly with the Palestinian people also renews the call for establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders, and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.In addition, he said Pakistan condemns the multiple missile attacks on Jazan and Riyadh by Houthi militia. PML-N, PTI politicians switch loyalties

ISLAMABAD: Scores of PML-N politicians including sitting MNAs and MPAs have decided to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).According to sources, PML-N MPA Azam Cheela, Ghulam Ahmed Gadi, Sheikh Yaqoob, Rashida Yaqoob, Aslam Bharvana, Asif Kathia and Chaudhry Shehbaz are going to join the PTI. MNA from Jhang Ghulam Bibi Bharvana and Sahibzada Nazir Sultan met Imran Khan on Thursday and joined his party. Sahibzada Nazir Sultan had won the election from Jhang as an independent candidate before joining the PML-N. In addition, PMLN MNA Ghulam Rasool Sahi and former speaker Afzal Sahi called on Imran Khan at Bani Gali and announced PTI. “I am joining the PTI as a patriotic Pakistani. I cannot remain associated with the PML-N anymore,” he said. PTI MNA joins PML-NMusarrat Zeb, a PTI MNA from Swat, joined the PML-N and attended the party’s parliamentary meeting.

KP cabinet approves Human Rights Policy

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhw cabinet on Thursday approved Human Rights Policy to safeguard rights of social, political workers, women, children including transgender persons, minorities and veteran citizens.The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak was informed that human rights policy would help ensure implementation of laws relating to various rights of the people.Moreover, the policy would also help to ensure increase in the budget for human rights.In addition, necessary legislation would be made to provide training to police about human rights and discourage it from torturing suspects during interrogation.The policy also outlines mechanism for protection of transgender persons’ rights and envisages proper legislation for providing training and skill development to the particular community.The provincial cabinet also approved changes in various development schemes in the light of recommendations of MPAs.However, implementation in this regard would be linked with the approval of the provincial assembly as per the Supreme Court’s decision.The cabinet also approved amendment to KP child protection and welfare act 2010, making the law more effective for protection of child rights.Secretary health or his representative would be member of Child Protection and Welfare Commission.Under the new amendment child protection units would be set up under the supervision of social welfare officer at district level.Chief protection officer would be in-charge of the commission at the provincial level.

LAHORE: A particular lobby is targeting PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in order to defame him, but the entire party stands by him, said Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah on Thursday. “Nawaz Sharif’s comments on [Mumbai attacks] have been misinterpreted by Indian media. He only talked about non-state actors,” Sanaullah said, adding people of Pakistan were aware of these issues. “Identifying non-state actors cannot be called a confrontation,” he said, referring to Chaudhry Nisar’s statement. The provincial minister recalled that it was Nawaz Sharif who had made Pakistan a nuclear power. “People such as Owaiz Muzaffar Tappi have been given clean chit by the NAB. If they are clean than who is corrupt in this country?” he wondered. The law minister urged NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal to take notice of clean chit being given to corrupt elements in Sindh. To a question, he said that NAB should respect the parliament.He said that PML-N would make a decision on awarding of tickets for the general elections in Ramzan. “It is important to hold timely and transparent elections. PML-N will emerge as victorious after defeating aliens,” he added.
