Fauzia Kasuri quits PTI
ISLAMABAD: Fauzia Kasuri announced that she was leaving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as she was “no longer able to defend her party’s actions.” Kasuri made the announcement on Twitter, where she shared a copy of her resignation addressed to PTI chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday.“I have sent this message of resignation to Imran Khan and other leaders in the party a few minutes ago. A message to my supporters in and outside PTI will follow shortly, May Alllah guide us all,” she tweeted. In her letter, Ms Kasuri wrote that she had become increasingly disenchanted by the direction of the party has taken and no longer see it as representative of the aspirations of the millions of undeserved citizens seeking transformative change in Pakistan. She said that Imran Khan had handed the reigns of the party to electables PTI had fought against since its inception. “Sadly this was the final nail in the coffin. Moreover, since I am no longer able to defend the party’s action, I would like to accept this letter as formal resignation from the party,” she added. She, however, wised Imran Khan the best of luck in the future. “I wish you best of luck and hope If you are granted the opportunity to form a national government, you shall strive to bring about the change you once promised,” she added.

Nobody can sell narrative of hatred, division in Sindh, says Murad
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that he has always promoted politics of brotherhood, fraternity, equality and humanity but some people are trying to earn political sympathies by advancing the arguments of hatred and division but this has now no space in this megalopolis city of Karachi. This he said while talking to media during his visit to the heat stroke centers set up by district administration along the road sides all over the city.He was accompanied by provincial ministers, Syed Nasir Shah, Saeed Ghani, Principal Secretary to CM Somali Rajput and Commissioner Karachi. He said that some people are again trying to ignite the fire of hatred and divide in Karachi but “this is now history”.“You destructed this city and we have reconstructed it again, you divided the people on linguistic and sectarian grounds and we inculcated the spirit of fraternity among them, you destroyed the institutions and we are rebuilding them – that was your time and this is our time and our time is of prosperity and unity because we have restored peace in this city,” he said.“Our time would last long because we serve the people irrespective of any discrimination and top of it people of this city believe in us, therefore they are with us,” Shah said. The people of Karachi were well educated and they know who has caused them pain and who would lead them to the development and prosperity.“I am sorry, my words have been taken wrongly but I am clear that who were trying to divide Sindh now stand divided themselves- Sindh is our mother land and nobody whether he is Sindhi speaking Sindhi or Urdu speaking Sindhi would never allow division of his mother land,” Murad Ali Shah said. PTI accuses Nawaz Sharif of impeding democratic process
LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has failed a single proper answer to 128 asked to him in Avenfield property reference, said PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday. “The court asked one thing while Nawaz Sharif replied something else and kept on telling outdated stories,” Chaudhry told a press conference, shortly after the deposed prime minister said that PTI’s sit-in was planted to oust him from power over his decision to try former military dictator Pervez Musharraf for high treason. "Why did Nawaz not utter a single word against Zia? Why did he let Pervez Musharraf go abroad?" he questioned. “Had Nawaz not done his 'job submissively' why were Mushahidullah Khan and Pervaiz Rasheed removed from their positions, he said.He said that Nawaz Sharif was made Punjab Chief Minister while he could not contest on councilor’s seat. He said that Nawaz Sharif had no regrets over his own actions over these years. “Nawaz Sharif’s government was dismissed for corruption. Shehbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif pressurized judges in the past and did they apologize for it,” he said. The PTI leader said that the only reservation Nawaz had was the probe against him. "He just wanted to portray himself as innocent to save his property." Nawaz spoke about everything except for the money trail of his Avenfield properties. "The day you will respond to how you were able to purchase the Avenfield properties, you will not have to dig out controversies," Chaudhry said.He accused Nawaz of attempting to destroy the political climate of the country. "You are trying to disturb the political climate because, for you, the state holds no value," he said. "You only value yourself, nothing else." Pakistan is transitioning into a stable democracy and Nawaz will not be able to impede this process, Chaudhry further said. To a question, he said that Imran Khan would become Pakistan’s next prime minister after the general elections. He said that Panama was an international scandal and that ISI or judiciary had nothing to do with it.

Get united to eliminate hatred, intolerance: Ahsan Iqbal tells NA
ISLAMABAD: Terming hatred and intolerance as a major threat to peace, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal Wednesday called on all political forces to join hands to combat the menace.“No society can go forward and progress with such kind of a mindset,” warned the minister in his address to the National Assembly, days after he was shot and injured in a failed assassination attempt during a visit to his constiutency. The assailant, a member of religious party, confessed to his involvement in the shooting, saying he targeted the minister over a recent amendment in election declaration. “It is very important to root-out the seeds of hatred, which we had sown in this country. If we don’t deal with the issue, the will burn us all,” he said. The interior minister particularly appealed to the country's religious clergy to play their role to counter extremist tendencies."No individual or group has the right to punish anybody when state institutions like the parliament and judicial system are functional," he stressed. The minister said that there was dire need of a long struggle against the hatred culture, expressing the hope that all the parties should look how to overcome this challenge.“We have carried so many dead bodies and witnessed bloodshed. We now have to decorate flowers of peace and for this we need to overcome hatred at all levels,” the minister remarked. The minister said individuals and groups have no right to issue decrees of killing on the basis of religion, saying that “who is Muslim and who is non-Muslim, the constitution of the country decides, the parliament decides, we cannot issue decrees in streets on it.”Similarly, regarding Jihad, he said that over 2000 prominent ulema of Pakistan had given decision in Payam-e-Pakistan that no individual or group could give order for jihad as it was the prerogative of the state only.He categorically rejected division on the basis of race, religion and colour, saying that whosoever holds Pakistani Identity Card, should be respected and loved without any prejudice. He said that prejudice against Muslims in India was the reason behind the creation of Pakistan and that was why Muslims demanded their homeland where they were not subjected to such prejudice.“If any group in Pakistan was subjected to the same prejudice, this would be negation of basic ideology of creation of Pakistan,” he remarked. He thanked Imran Khan for sending him a bouquet but lamented that those who had brought the bouquet were defending the assassin outside the hospital.

PTI-PAT sit-in planted to oust me from power over Musharraf treason trial: Nawaz Sharif
ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the four-month protest sit-in staged by PTI in 2014 was planted to oust him from power over his decision to put Pervez Musharraf on trial on charges of high treason. Addressing a press conference at Punjab House here on Wednesday, Sharif read his statement he gave earlier before an accountability court hearing Avenfield property references. “The corruption references filed against me by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) are byproducts of a high treason case against former military dictator Pervez Musharraf,” he said.Nawaz said that the references as well as the sit-ins against his government were reciprocal punishment for him taking legal action against Musharraf despite being warned not to do so.He said that the head of an intelligence agency had conveyed a message to "resign or go on a long leave. “I was very upset as such blatant threats by a subordinate to the head of the state are not issued even in third world countries.”Sharif said that PTI and PAT were pawns who had been asked to hold sit-ins to weaken his government. "Before the filing of the treason case I had met Imran Khan and he never demanded my resignation. But surprisingly after Musharraf was booked, he met Tahirul Qadri in London where they decided to stage a sit-in against my government."The PML-N leader praised the sacrifices rendered by armed forces and pointed out that he had increased the defence budget.“I had turned down an offer of $5 billion in aid in exchange for commitment not to conduct the nuclear test in the 90s,” he recalled. “It is also a "prerequisite for the sanctity of the armed forces that if any person suspends the Constitution then he should be held accountable"."Only a few people in the armed forces staged a coup but the entire institution has to pay the cost," he added.Nawaz said that he had already been punished once for his unwavering stance on civil supremacy, recalling: "Nineteen years ago, I was detained in torture cells, I was sentenced to life imprisonment, I was handcuffed and jetted off. Was there a Panama at that time? The answer is simply no. At that time, too, I was demanding civil supremacy. I wanted foreign and domestic policies to be in the hand of the elected representative."Sharif defended his government's record over the last five years, saying: "I am a son of the soil. I don’t need a certificate of patriotism from anyone. In the last five years, the growth has been phenomenal — unmatched under any regime in the last 65 years."He voiced his displeasure over the Supreme Court's July 28 verdict. "That judgement may satisfy some people but it was not good for the overall image of Pakistan. It did not contribute to the judiciary or criminal justice system because of the uncertainty arising after the verdict."The founder of the PML-N then questioned the NAB court as to why judiciaries of the past did not do anything against dictatorial regimes."Why was Liaquat Ali Khan martyred, why was Zulfikar Bhutto hanged, and why was Benazir Bhutto also martyred? I wish there was a court that could dare to ask generals why they abrogated the Constitution and why the judges legitimised their dictatorial regimes."The PML-N supreme leader reiterated that the allegations levelled against him are baseless and asked accountability court judge Mohammad Bashir to "make a just decision since you and me both will appear before Allah Almighty one day."Sharif said that his ouster from politics by getting him banned for life was considered the only solution to keep him out of power. About the Panana Papers case, he said that he had no idea how many people, prime ministers and heads of states were ousted from power. “I wasn’t even named in the Panama papers,” he said. Mr Sharif said that he had been facing similar situation for the last 20 years while there was no Panama Papers to blame. “I reiterate my stance that decision power belongs to those who are elected by the people of this country,” he added. “I consider it an insult to receive certificate of patriotism from others.”The former prime minister slammed his disqualification by the apex court. "I was never allowed to complete my constitutional term," he added. "Nobody can see corruption in my verdict, but everyone can see injustice," he added.
