Pakistan to retaliate if India targets civilian population: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI: DG ISPR Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan army would be compelled to retaliate if India targeted civilian population. “DG MO has given an undertaking to his Indian counterpart about respecting the 2003 ceasefire agreement and Pakistan army is committed to uphold it. But we will give a befitting response if Indian army hits our civilian population,” Asif Ghafoor briefed media at GHQ. “India should decide how it wants to proceed. We are two nuclear powers and there is no space for war,” he said. “Our job is to respect the ceasefire agreement, we will not respond to the first bullet fired by Indian at us. But if civilians are the target, we will be forced to retaliate,” he said.“We request the Indian army and media to defuse tense situation,” he said. “Recently I had interaction with SAARC journalists including Indians. We took them to North Waziristan.”“They asked a question that a high-profile incident happens in India whenever ties are improved between Pakistan and India. I told them you have witnessed only two incidents such as Mumbai attacks while Pakistan has faced thousands of such incidents,” he said,” adding Kulbhushan Jadhav is one such example of Indian involvement in fomenting violence.India, he said, carried out more than 15, 00 ceasefire violations in 2018 alone. The DG ISPR said that there were 71 incidents of cross-border terrorism ever since Pakistan started fencing its border with Afghanistan. “There is no organized militant network, including Haqqanis, in Pakistan. We now want respectful repatriation of Afghan refugees from our country,” he added. He said that even Americans realize that there was significant after military operations in Waziristan. The DG ISPR said that Hazara community expressed its joy when LeJ commander Salman Badeni was killed in Balochistan. He said that terror incidents dropped after the killing of Salman Badeni. FATA, he said, was now a part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and everybody should work to build it.PTM talksMaj-Gen Asif Ghafoor said that he had personally met PTM  members including Mohsin Dawar and Manzoor Ahmed. "I held a separate meeting with Mohsin Dawar and Manzoor Pashteen and then arranged their meeting with military officers to resolve their issues," he said."Dawar sent me a text and thanked me for addressing his issues. But all of a sudden, hundreds of social media accounts were created to launch anti-Pakistan propaganda," he said. "How could so many caps were made? How could foreign media start telecasting their protests live? Thankfully, local media ignored their propaganda," he said. Ghafoor said that Chief of the Army Staff had strictly advised the forces to avoid use of force against PTM's members. "We now have strong evidence to prove that PTM is being exploited by foreign elements," he said. In Wana, PTM people started anti-army slogans, he said, adding that people from peace committee asked them to stop chanting before a clash broke out between them. "Army helicopters were used to transport the injured people to hospitals. But unfortunately, they started sharing a fake photograph of some girl being shot.  There was no such casualty in Wana.""It doesn't affect us if you make false claims on social media. The people of Pakistan greatly respect armed forces because of the sacrifices they have given in the war against terrorism."He said that "our focus is on the job and we should not deviate from it."Pakistan army is the only force which has won the war against terrorism, he said. "Whoever wears uniform be it police, army, FC, Rangers is part of us. They all are in the line of fire and they are doing it for the country."The army chief spokesman has urged critics not to undermine the country's sacrifices to build their own career. In Karachi, he said that people must reject a  politico-criminal nexus . Social media launches propagandaAsif Ghafoor said that thousands of fake accounts were set up on social media to launch a propaganda. "We need to check what to tweet and what no to. Social media is a lethal threat to young generation than the grown-ups," he said. He said that some accounts being run in the name of army or defence institutions were reported to FIA for action. "Pakistan army is a national force and we cannot afford a discord or division in the country," he added.

Reham-Haqqani picture telling real story: Fawad

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Central Information Secretary, Fawad Chaudhry on Monday said that the picture of Reham Khan and Husain Haqqani telling the real story behind her upcoming book.Since the manuscript of Reham Khan's autobiography was leaked online, the PTI is in a panic mode and has accused her of peddling PML-N's agenda of maligning rivals.Reham posted a picture of her meeting with former Pak envoy to US in London last week, which triggered all the controversy. PTI spox Fawad Ch said that we know on whose agenda Imran's ex-wife was working and the party welcomes her announcement of approaching court. This is not the first time that PML-N has used women for achieving political gains, he said and adding that 'book from divorced wife will defame Imran and that will upset the party.A PTI source told this newspaper that Imran and a few other party leaders came across the script of Reham’s book after it was leaked online. "A meeting was held during which the party decided to counter the contents of the book and PTI social media accounts subsequently sent out tweets in condemnation of Reham," the source said."Reham and PTI leaders are engaged in confidential email exchanges seeking assurances and issuing threats to each other at the same time," the source added. A source close to Reham said the manuscript of her book was "leaked or hacked" and hence made its way to Pakistan.Reham Khan also alleged in a series of tweets that actor-anchor and PTI supporter Hamza Ali Abbasi has been threatening her since August 2017. Abbasi on Friday tweeted that he had the “very unfortunate experience of reading a manuscript of Reham Khan’s book”. Here is the summary: IK is the most evil man to walk the face of this planet. Reham is the most pious righteous (Tahajjud guzaar) woman ever and Shahbaz Sharif is an amazing guy!” he wrote. In response, Reham wondered how it was possible for Abbasi to read the manuscript since the book was not released yet. “Only possible through fraud or theft,” she added. The former BBC weather presenter then alleged that Abbasi has been threatening her since August 2017. She followed the allegations with a screenshot of an email conversation between her and the actor.

Sarfraz proud of youthful side despite Headingley hammering

LEEDS: Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed insisted he was proud of his youthful side even after an innings and 55-run defeat at Headingley denied them a Test-series victory in England. That overwhelming loss, completed inside three days on Sunday, meant the two-match campaign ended all square at 1-1 following what Sarfraz said was Pakistan’s "perfect" nine-wicket victory in the first Test at Lord’s.Defeat left Pakistan still looking for their first Test series success in England since 1996, when fast-bowling greats Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were in the side.Despite skittling England out for just 184 in their first innings at Lord’s, Sarfraz elected to bat after winning the toss in Leeds. While the Headingley pitch provided a typically good surface, overhead conditions quickly became humid and cloudy, creating a swing-friendly environment that made batting difficult.Even so, Pakistan would still have expected to have made more than their 174, which featured a third fifty in as many Tests from teenage leg-spinner Shadab Khan. That total meant they were always chasing the game and, were just one individual effort away from conceding a large first-innings lead.Having fielded brilliantly as a side at Lord’s, Pakistan saw Hasan Ali drop a routine catch when Jos Buttler was on four. The dashing Buttler punished Pakistan with an unbeaten 80 in an England reply of 363.Pakistan, 189 behind on first innings, then slumped to 134 all out in 46 overs second time around as their top order again failed to fire. But having also overseen a victory over Test debutants Ireland in Dublin during this tour, Sarfraz was pleased with Pakistan’s progress."When we came here people thought we will not win one game but the way we played at Lord’s everything was perfect, our fast bowling was perfect, our batting and fielding were perfect," Sarfraz told reporters."It’s disappointing that we had a chance to win the series but unfortunately we didn’t play well here."- ‘1-1 good for us’ -Overall there were still plenty of plus-points for Pakistan, not least the bowling of seamer Mohammad Abbas who took a match-winning eight for 64 at Lord’s."I am proud of my young team, the way Abbas is bowling, Shadab is doing well, Faheem Ashraf did well, so I’m really disappointed that we didn’t win (at Headingley) but 1-1 is good for us," said wicket-keeper Sarfraz.Experienced opening batsman Azhar Ali averaged just 16.75 during the series while Sarfraz averaged 10.33 -- well below his career Test mark of 37.78."Azhar is our main batsman, it’s correct he is not in good nick but he scored a good fifty at Lord’s," said Sarfraz. As for his own batting, Sarfraz added: "I am not satisfied with my batting in the series."I committed mistakes and played a few bad shots."Pakistan arrived for this tour having gone several months without a Test since a 68-run defeat by Sri Lanka in Dubai and Sarfraz said playing three in relatively quick succession was always likely to prove a tough challenge for his team."We played our last Test in October, so it’s difficult when you play a Test after five or six months. Test cricket is a different format, you have to adjust to five-day cricket. If you have to field for two three days, it’s tough," explained Sarfraz."The more you play Test cricket, you get to mature as Test player. Now we have five Tests in the UAE (two against Australia and three against New Zealand), then we have three in South Africa and that will help us mature as a Test team," he added.
