SHO, constable martyred in Lower Dir blast

LOWER DIR: Two policemen were  martyred in a  blast targeting  their vehicle in Lower Dir district of Khyber Paktunkhwa.According to Geo News,  a Station House Officer (SHO) and a constable were  martyred and two other policemen were injured  in the blast.The  dead and injured were taken to nearby hospital. A large number of policemen were sent to the area following the blast who cordoned off the  site.They were collecting evidence to ascertain the nature of the blast.

ECP directs candidates to submit affidavit with nomination papers

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday said that in the light of order of Supreme Court of Pakistan, all contesting candidates of National and provincial assemblies and reserved seats will have to submit the affidavit alongwith their nomination papers with the Returning Officers (ROs).According to ECP, directions in this regard had been issued to the Returning Officers across the country to receive affidavit which was prepared by the ECP and approved by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.It said that under Supreme Court order, all contesting candidates will be bound to submit their affidavit with their concerned Returning Officers by June 11, failing which their nomination papers will be rejected.It said that the commission has placed the affidavit on its website to facilitate the expected candidates.Submission Of Affidavit Compulsory Supreme Court directed all candidates contesting general elections to submit an affidavit, comprising missing information in the electoral nominations papers, within three days.A five-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, issued orders while hearing appeals filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), former speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq against the Lahore High Court ruling ordering the revision of the nomination forms to be submitted by candidates for upcoming general elections.The court also directed ECP to submit the format of the affidavit in the court within one hour, however, the nomination papers will remain unchanged.The Chief Justice maintained that ECP had right to ask details whatever it needed from the candidates moreover public should know the whereabouts of his candidates going to contest elections.The top judge said that all information was being demanded for justice, adding that the court would have the right to take action against the person who filed misinformation in the affidavit under Article 62, 63 of the constitution.It may added that LHC had ruled that the nomination forms do not include mandatory information and declarations required from lawmakers as per the Constitution and law, and ordered the ECP to ensure this information is included in the revised Form A - for election to the NA or Senate - and Form B - a statement of assets and liabilities.Subsequently, ECP and Ayaz Sadiq approached SC challenging the decision, subsequently, the apex court suspended LHC decision and now made compulsory required affidavit along with nomination forms.

Naval conference reviews operational readiness prevailing maritime environment

ISLAMABAD: The Command and Staff Conference of Pakistan Navy that concluded here Wednesday reviewed the operational readiness and developmental plans of the naval force besides prevailing maritime environment.The conference, chaired by Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, also deliberated on prevailing security situation, training and welfare of the troops, a press release said.Detailed briefings on various ongoing and Pakistan Navy’s future projects and plans were also given to the Naval Chief, who expressed satisfaction over operational readiness of Pakistan Navy in the prevalent maritime challenges, including security aspects, lauding the morale and motivation of troops at all levels.The Command and Staff Conference is the apex decision making body of Pakistan Navy in which all Chiefs of Staff, Principal Staff Officers and Field Commanders undertake strategic review of Pakistan Navy’s policies and plans.

NAB orders inquiry against Nawaz, Abbasi over alleged misuse of authority

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has opened an inquiry against former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi over alleged misuse of authority.In an executive board meeting chaired by NAB chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday, the accountability body has given a go-ahead to open an inquiry against Nawaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who served as minister for petroleum during Nawaz’s tenure before assuming charge of PM office, and others “for granting a 15-year contract of LNG terminal to a company of their liking in violation of rules and by misuse of their powers, which caused national exchequer a loss of billions of rupees".The anti-corruption watchdog has also approved  a probe against former Sindh chief minister, former secretary, officers of the Sindh Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Department and others over allegations of misuse of authority. An investigation was also approved against former Punjab chief minister, concerned secretaries, a former MPA from Chiniot and the management of Ramzan Sugar Mills Chiniot over alleged misuse of authority.The accountability bureau also announced to launch probe against former chairman of Karachi Port Trust, Vice Admiral (retd) Ahmad Hayat, former Balochistan ministers Sheikh Jaffar Khan and Obaidullah Jan Babat and other officials over similar allegations.

Shahid Afridi commends CJP for surprise visits

KARACHI: Star cricketer Shahid Afridi has applauded Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar for his surprise visits to state-run health facilities. Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, the former Pakistan captain said that the chief justice had done a commendable job. The cricketer, however, called on the top judge to spare some time to visit lower courts to “fix the blacksheep within” as well. “Want to congratulate the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar for commendable & remarkable job. His surprise visits have been of great service to nation however I wld like to suggest tht If he can also take out time to visit lower courts so tht he can fix the blacksheeps within as-well,” the SAF chairperson tweeted.The chief justice has been actively visiting government-run hospitals of Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to inspect the medical services being given to patients.
