New Islamabad airport to be the first in Pakistan to host world's largest passenger aircraft

The Islamabad International Airport will become first facility in Pakistan to host Airbus A380 aircraft, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on its Twitter account on Wednesday.In the twitter post, the CAA also announced schedule for the the flight  .The Airbus A380 is a double-deck, wide-body, four-engine jet airliner which is the world's largest passenger airliner.The airports at which the aircraft operates need to have upgraded facilities to accommodate it.

PMLN women workers protest in Lahore over party tickets

LAHORE: A group of women workers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gathered outside the Central Secretariat of the party in the provincial capital to record their protest for not being awarded ticket to contest the upcoming general election.They were holding placards and chanting slogans against what they said excesses meted out to the female workers.According to Geo News, some workers accused the party leadership of awarding tickets to "favorites" while others called for taking into consideration sacrifices  female workers have rendered for the PMLN.They said the women who faced adversities for the party should be given respect. "Mian Shaib, that is what we have got after giving our entire lives  to the party," said a participant while addressing PMLN Supreme Leader Mian Nawaz Sharif.

SC asks Musharraf to appear till Thursday afternoon

LAHORE: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday asked former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf to appear before it till Thursday  afternoon.The orders came as an SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of high treason case against the former military ruler.A counsel for Musharraf told the court that his client was prepared to attend the hearing.He pleaded the court to guarantee protection for his client  if he decides to show up.In his remarks, the chief justice said the court would ensure Mushararf's protection, but it was not bound to give a written assurance.He said Musharraf should not repeat mantra of "I am coming" like politicians. "What is he scared of? Why does he need protection. If he is a commando, he must show up to prove that. How can such a strong commando be scared," he asked.Directing the former president to appear before the court till 2:00 Thursday, the chief justice said the bench would give verdict in accordance with law if the accused fails to attend the hearing.He said the court would not allow scrutiny of his nomination papers then.Countering an argument from Musharraf's counsel, the chief justice told the lawyer to ask his client to come through an air ambulance, adding that the court would form a medical board for the accused.

Already wary of meat, people raise concern after 200 goats killed in road accident near Lahore

LAHORE: A truck carrying   animals overturned near Lahore on Tuesday, killing at least 200 goats.The incident took place  on Multan Road near Loharanwala Khoo. Hours after accident occurred, some social media  users  claimed that the dead animals are being shifted to slaughter house.They expressed concern that   unscrupulous elements  in collusion with  corrupt  officials of the local administration could supply the meat of dead animals to   eateries and hotels in the provincial metropolis.People  in Lahore have been wary of eating meat after  former Punjab government held scores of butchers  for selling donkey meat over the last few years.

100 million tree planting campaign to start from June 15

'Green Pakistan' programme launched on February 9, 2017ISLAMABAD: A target of planting 100 million trees throughout the country has been set for the upcoming four-month monsoon season, which will start from June 15. “A set target of 100 million trees that would be planted under the prime minister’s five-year Green Pakistan Programme during the monsoon season" said an official here on Tuesday.To a question he said, “The Green Pakistan Programme has been launched as a national cause and as a part of the present government’s efforts to protect the country and its people from devastating impacts of climate change include floods, which have shown rise in intensity and frequency over recent years,”.He said that forests were effective way to boost the country’s climate change resilience against negative fall outs of the climate change.The Green Pakistan Programme was earlier launched on February 9 in 2017 but could not be implemented.

General Bajwa congratulates Afghan authorities on recent peace initiatives

Rawalpindi: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that recently agreed Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Stability (APAPPS) is expected to bring more cooperation and coordination between the two countries.According to Inter Services Public Relations, the media wing of the military, General Bajwa visited Kabul on Tuesday and during his visit, he had exclusive one on one meeting with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani followed by delegations level discussions.Referring to border fencing, the Army Chief said that this is an obstacle for checking terrorism and not between people of both sides.General Bajwa also had meetings with Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah and Commander Resolute Support Mission(RSM) General John Nicholson. COAS congratulated Afghanistan authorities on recent peace initiatives especially in respect of the holy month of Ramadan/ Eid and wished that these steps gain more of permanence ultimately leading towards an enduring peace. The discussions encompassed wide range of issues especially the ongoing efforts for reconciliation in Afghanistan, measures needed to check rise of Daesh and the issue of terrorists taking benefit of the porous border to indulge in terrorism, smuggling and drug trafficking, being often networked together. He reiterated that it is the regions and not countries that develop for which peace and development remain quintessential. The COAS further said that having attained relative peace and stability inside Pakistan, efforts are now focused towards socio-economic development as a route towards enduring peace and stability. Afghan President thanked the COAS for his visit and recent security initiatives undertaken for peace and stability. The president shared contours of his vision about regional development, efforts to extend ongoing temporary ceasefire and steps related to creating conditions for reconciliation.Chief Executive also thanked General Bajwa for his visit and APAPPS initiative. Both sides agreed that while results of the bilateral initiatives are extremely important but even more important is the continuity of the processes to achieve the end state objectives. Talking to Commander RSM, the COAS said that Pakistan desires that US/NATO Forces must succeed and leave behind a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.Earlier, upon arrival at the presidential palace, COAS was presented guard of honour. Foreign Secretary, DG ISI, Pakistan’s Ambassador in Afghanistan and other senior officials accompanied the COAS while Afghan NSA and senior ministers including NDS joined Afghan delegation.The Army Chief has reached back after visiting Kabul, Afghanistan.

SC to announce verdict in Sheikh Rasheed?s disqualification case tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday will announce its verdict on a petition seeking disqualification of Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed.The litigation headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, also compromising Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah will announce the decision after it was adjourned on March 20, 2018.The petition comes from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Shakeel Awan who had lost to Sheikh Rasheed during the 2013 elections, alleging the AML chief submitted false declaration of his assets in his nomination papers on intention.On the other hand, Rasheed’s counsel has vindicated that his client did not conceal anything and accepted that his client had owned the mistake in valuing his assets.Justice Qazi Faez Isa mentioned that the petitioner has pressed for the disqualification of the lawmaker despite whatever the error may be.Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed rose that the concerns lies whether a lawmaker stood disqualified owing to an error while filling out the nomination papers or his/her assets.

Aseefa Bhutto changes decision to contest general elections

KARACHI: Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, the younger daughter of former president Asif Ali Zardari has changed her decision to contest general elections 2018, scheduled on July 25.Sources privy to the development said Aseefa would not participate in upcoming general elections instead she would take part in the by-elections, however, it was yet to be decided from which constituency she would be contesting.Sources further said Aseefa would likely contest by-elections from any of the seat vacated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari following General Elections.Bilawal is contesting elections from Larkana and Lyari, sources said and added that Bilawal would retain its ancestral seat from Larkana while Aseefa wanted to make PPP strong hold Lyari her constituency. Therefore, she would most probably take part in by-elections from Lyari.
