Musharraf decides not to appear before SC tomorrow

LAHORE: Former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has decided not to appear before Supreme Court on Thursday after the apex court directed him to appear before it till 2:00 PM on June 14.Geo News citing sources reported that former president has decided not to appear before the Supreme Court tomorrow. The orders came as an SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar resumed hearing of high treason case against the former military ruler.A counsel for Musharraf told the court that his client was prepared to attend the hearing. He pleaded the court to guarantee protection for his client if he decides to show up.In his remarks, the chief justice said the court would ensure Mushararf's protection, but it was not bound to give a written assurance. He said Musharraf should not repeat mantra of "I am coming" like politicians. "What is he scared of? Why does he need protection. If he is a commando, he must show up to prove that. How can such a strong commando be scared," he asked.Directing the former president to appear before the court till 2:00 Thursday, the chief justice said the bench would give verdict in accordance with law if the accused fails to attend the hearing. He said the court would not allow scrutiny of his nomination papers then.Countering an argument from Musharraf's counsel, the chief justice told the lawyer to ask his client to come through an air ambulance, adding that the court would form a medical board for the accused.

ISLAMABAD: Complying with the Supreme Court orders, the cellular companies have announced to provide relief to their consumers and not to charge tax on pre-paid mobile cards, Geo News reported citing the sources. The FBR sources said consumers can get complete Rs100 on charging every Rs100 pre-paid mobile card and easy load with effect from midnight today.Earlier, the consumers were getting Rs64.38 against Rs100 mobile card and easy load after tax deduction. The telecom companies are providing relief to the consumers for 15 days and after it a new mechanism of tax deduction would be formulated with the officials of FBR.Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar suspended the ‘exorbitant tax deductions' from mobile phones pre-paid calling cards and easy load by companies as the apex court gave a two-day deadline to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to follow the orders pertaining to the suspension.“Rs38.08 are deducted on a prepaid mobile card of Rs100,” Chief Justice Nisar remarked. “This is illegal.” “How can tax be received from a person who does not come in the tax net? It is illegal to provide Rs64.38 to a person who charges Rs100 card in his phone. A comprehensive policy should be made over the tax deduction,” directed the court.

Jawad Ahmad calls out PTI over Zulfi Bukhari?s Saudi visit

KARACHI: Singer-turned-politician Jawad Ahmed took a dig at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday after Sayed Zulfi Bukhari was allowed to travel with Imran Khan to Saudi Arabia despite his name featuring on an exit control list (ECL). British national and businessman Bukhari is a close aide and friend of Imran Khan. He accompanied the PTI leader and his wife to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah after being granted special one-time permission by the interior ministry to travel abroad and return to the country within six days. The move drew widespread anger on social media from opposition parties, journalists and activists, prompting Prime Minister Nasir ul Mulk to seek a report from the Ministry of Interior. Singer Jawad Ahmed, who has launched his own Barabri Party, joined the outrage and called out Imran Khan's party for claiming high moral grounds. “PTI sneaks out Zulfi bukhari despite him being on ECL & celebrate Sheikh Rasheed being declared Sadiq & Ameen while still claiming their moral high ground,” he tweeted.“They preach morality to the nation but exploit the system just as the other parties do. No difference between PMLN, PTI & PPP,” he concluded.

PM Office gets report on Zulfi Bukhari?s foreign visit

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday forwarded its report to Prime Minister Office about Syed Zulfi Bukhari’s visit to Saudi Arabia despite his name being on the Exit Control List (ECL).Geo quoted the ministry saying that it had placed Bukhari, a close aide to Imran Khan, on the blacklist category over the recommendation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Sources told the channel that people featuring on the blacklist cannot be given one-time permission(OTP) to travel abroad. The NAB had expressed serious concern on this move after it was not approached by MoI before being allowed Bukhari to fly abroad for Umrah along with PTI chairman Imran Khan and his wife.Caretaker prime minister Nasir ul Mulk also sought a report over permission being granted to Bukhari. On Monday, Bukhari was briefly stopped from flying to Saudi Arabia. Senator Sherry Rehman also questioned the move to allow Bukhari to travel abroad. "A one-off waiver by a Caretaker Interior Ministry to anyone, put on ECL by NAB without intimation from NAB, will be seen as arbitrary. Caretaker ministers cannot be seen granting undue favours to any one party, at this stage or the next. Hope there is a valid public explanation," she tweeted. Imran Khan’s political secretary Awn Chaudhry, who is accompanying Khan to Saudi Arabia, defended Zulfi Bukhari.“Sad to see how Zulfi Bukhari is being victimised for being close to Imran Khan. But unlike Hasan and Husain Sharif, Zulfi is not running away or claiming immunity by being a British national,” he tweeted.“Zulfi Bukhari is returning with us to Pakistan and is ready to face all kind of investigations and media propaganda. Its just a small price that one has to pay to be Imran Khan’s companion!,” Chaudhry added.
