Renowned Urdu writer Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi passes away
KARACHI: Renowned Urdu humour writer Mushtaq Ahmad Yusufi has died here on Wednesday.Yusufi was admitted at a private hospital a few days back after contracting pneumonia. He was shifted to ventilator after his heath deteriorated.Yusufi also served as the head of several national and international governmental and financial institutions.He received Sitara-i-Imtiaz Award in 1999 and Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award in 2002, the highest literary honour by the government of Pakistan.

Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf resigns
ISLAMABAD: Ashtar Ausaf Ali has resigned as Attorney General of Pakistan, Geo News reported Wednesday.The resignation comes hours after the caretaker Punjab government removed Asma Hamid from the post of advocate general of the province.Ausaf has forwarded his resignation to President Mamnoon Hussain for approval. He was appointed as attorney general of Pakistan on March 29, 2016.The outgoing Shehbaz Sharif government had appointed Asma Hamid, a move which drew the ire of rival PTI.

Maryam Nawaz declares assets worth over Rs 845 million
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Maryam Nawaz, while submitting her nomination papers, declared that her net assets amount to a total of Rs 845 million. This information was shared by Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding assets of electoral candidates on Wednesday. Daughter of former Prime Minister, Maryam who has submitted her nomination papers from NA-125, NA-127 and PP-173 constituencies revealed that she is a shareholder in Chaudhry Sugar Mills Limited, Hamza Spinning Mills Limited, Muhammad Buksh Textile Mills Limited, Hudabiya Papers Mills Limited and Hudabiya Engineering Co Private Limited.Furthermore, she also owns 1,506 kanals irrigation land, which have increased by 548 kanals in the last three years.Maryam also disclosed that she invested Rs 3.4 million in her family flour mills and had lent a loan worth Rs 7 million to Soft Energy Private Limited. She also stated that she currently owns gifts and jewellery worth Rs40 million and 1.7 million respectively. Moreover, Maryam shared that her brother Hasan Nawaz had also given her a loan of Rs 20 million.

NA-53: Imran Khan files appeal against rejection of nomination paper
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday filed an appeal in Appellate Tribunal against the Returning Officer's decision to reject his nomination papers from NA-53 for the Genera Election 2018.Filed through his lawyer Babar Awan, the application stated that the RO's decision contradics the Constitution.It said Imran Khan is chairman of a one of major political parties whose nomination papers have been rejected on week grounds.The application prayed that nomination papers of Imran Khan be accepted by declaring RO's decision null and void.Islamabad High Court's Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani would take up Khan's appeal on Thursday for hearing. According to Geo News, as many as 21 tribunals have been set up where candidates can file appeals till June 22. The tribunals would decide the appeals till June 27.Eight tribunals have been established in Punjab, four in Sindh, six in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two in Balochistan.

Woman among four 'terrorists' killed in Balochistan operation
QUETTA: Four suspected terrorists including a woman were killed during an operation carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Wednesday, according to Geo News.A spokesman for the CTD said the operation was conducted at a residential compound in Dasht Tera Meel area on the basis of information provided by an under custody suspect who was also killed during exchange of fire.He said the terrorists opened fire on police as they entered the compound, adding that one of them blew himself up near the Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) while another was gunned down in retaliatory fireThe spokesman said a female suspect was also killed during the operation.Rescue officials claimed that body of a child and an injured woman were also shifted from the site to a hospital, but official sources declined to verify or reject the account.Arms, ammunition and explosives were also recovered during a search operation in the compound.IG Balochistan's visitBalochistan Police Inspector General Mohsin Butt visited the compound where he was briefed by CTD officials.The IG is said to have appreciated the police for successfully conducting the operation.

ECP forms 20 tribunals to hear rejection appeals
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has constituted 20 tribunals to hear appeals on nomination papers rejected by the returning officers across the country.According to the electoral body, high court judges will be part of the appellate tribunals. It has set up six tribunals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eight in Punjab, four in Sindh, and two in Balochistan.The move came after the scrutiny of candidates seeking to contest in the elections concluded on Tuesday.As per the election schedule, appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers can be filed by June 22. The decision on the appeals will be made by June 27, after which the final list of the candidates will be shared on June 28.The last date for withdrawal of candidature will be June 29.Moreover, the date for allocation of electoral symbols and publication of the final list of contesting candidates will be June 30 before the country goes to the polls on July 25.

Imran seeks immediate removal of KP governor
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has called for an immediate removal of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, arguing that the latter could influence the outcome of elections due to his affiliation with the PML-N. In a letter to Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk, Imran Khan said the governor had once served as Secretary General of the PML-N. The governor, it said, still had powers to handle financial affairs of the federally-administered tribal areas (FATA). The PTI chief said that Governor Jhagra cannot be trusted to remain neutral. He also called for transferring federal and provincial bureaucrats appointed by the PML-N and PPP governments at the centre and in provinces where the two parties were in power. The PTI chief also stated that the caretaker governments of respective provinces were moving at an extremely slow pace to rectify the situation.Therefore, he said, direct and immediate action should be taken to replace Jhagra and remove other anomalies that would hinder the process of free and fair elections.

LONDON: Former Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has taken over social media with a mere five second footage of him in London crossing the road with a hastened pace.The PML-N president is in London to inquiry after the health of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz who is on ventilator after suffering a cardiac arrest last week. Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz are also in the British capital to be with ailing Kulsoom Nawaz. Meanwhile, social media users are sniggering over the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PMLN) supremo crossing a busy street in London ‘without any protocol’ as users are putting it.While the amateur footage has garnered ample chuckles online, there are some who are using this as an opportunity to shed light on the extravagant lives back in his home country but is abiding by the rules on foreign land.One user writes: “Shehbaz Sharif spotted in London while crossing the road. In Pakistan they use motorcade and block roads for their movement. Where as this is how they moves in London.”While another one states: “Can we just make this go viral! Viral video shows another bus hostess facing harassment by security guard
KARACHI: Days after a bus hostess in Faisalabad was murdered for turning down a marriage proposal, a similar video has emerged on social media of a security guard harassing a female hostess in Karachi.The security guard can be seen misbehaving with the bus hostess in the circulating footage followed by the female getting hit in response to resistance. The viral video goes on to also show a man trying to reason with the security guard. Earlier in the week, a similar incident had occurred in Faisalabad where an 18-year-old bus hostess named Mehwish was shot dead by a security guard for declining his marriage proposal. The latest video as confirmed by Mehwish’s mother is not of her deceased daughter but is a different occurrence.
