Zardari pays tributes to Army officers and soldiers

Islamabad: Former President of Pakistan and President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of two army personnel during an operation against terrorists in South Waziristan. Two army personnel Hawaldar Razzaq Khan and Mumtaz Hussain were martyred in a fire exchange with terrorists on Saturday in South Waziristan.In a statement former President sympathized with the bereaved families and said that his thoughts are with the families of martyrs. He expressed satisfaction over the successful operation by the Army in South Waziristan. Zardari paid rich tributes to Army officers and soldiers for fighting and winning war against terrorists.

Spokesman explains mystery behind Bilawal House?s Rs3 million price

KARACHI: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s spokesman has issued a clarification about the price of Bilawal House declared by PPP chairman in his asset details. Reacting to reports concerning Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s asset details, Spokesman to the Chairman, Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, has said that: “We have noticed that a lot is being said regarding Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari’s asset details. The PPP would like to clarify a few things.“Chairman PPP submitted income tax returns for the last three years with all his nomination papers. All properties and businesses that have been declared by Mr Chairman were inherited from his family. “As for those questioning how Bilawal House Karachi is worth Rs3 million, it should be mentioned that Section 116 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, says: ‘All assets [whether purchased or inherited] should be valued at cost’. PPP Chairman inherited Bilawal House Karachi in early nineties and at that time, it was valued at Rs 3 million”.Senator Khokhar has also said that “around 70 candidates are contesting against Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari in all three constituencies that he is contesting from. Copies of his nomination papers were taken by all other contesting candidates – including those from the PTI, JUI, MQM, PML-N, MMA, etc., and none of them raised any legal objections whatsoever.PPP Chairman has followed the law in letter and spirit while filing his nomination papers. We respect the law of the land and believe in transparency”.

Veteran politician Javed Hashmi denied PML-N?s ticket?

MULTAN: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has not yet awarded a ticket to veteran politician Javed Hashmi who is aspiring to contest the next general election from his home constituency in Multan. Javed Hashmi’s name doesn’t feature in the list of candidates issued by the former ruling party on Saturday. Hashmi had re-joined the PML-N in May this year after expressing confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. The veteran politician had previously contested on a PTI’s ticket from Multan, where he returned as a clear winner. In a press statement, PML-N spokesman Marriyum  Aurangzeb said that her party has issued the first list of candidates running in the election.A final and complete list comprising remaining constituencies will be released in two days, she said. Earlier, PML-N‘s Parliamentary Board announced Saturday that Maryam Nawaz Sharif would contest election from National Assembly constituency NA-127 and Punjab Assembly's constituency PP-173.Hamza Shehbaz Sharif will be running from National Assembly constituency NA-124.Former railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has been awarded the ticket to contest from National Assembly constituency NA-131.Former Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is likely to be the party's candidate for the post of prime minister, will take up the contest from NA-132. Nawaz Sharif’s nephew Abid Sher Ali has been asked to stand from National Assembly constituency NA-108.Former Punjab law minister Rana Sanaullah will be contesting from National Assembly constituency NA-106.Former interior minister Ahsan Iqbal will take part in the election from his home constituency NA-78 while senior leader Khawaja Asif will fight the electoral battle in NA-73.In addition, Khurram Dastgir Khan has been awarded the ticket to contest from NA-81.

TTP appoints new leader after deadly drone strike

Tehreek-e-Taliban Taliban (TTP) announced it had appointed a new leader on Saturday after the militant group confirmed for the first time its former chief Maulana Fazlullah was killed in a US drone strike last week.Fazlullah is believed to have ordered the failed 2012 assassination of Malala Yousafzai, who became a global symbol of the fight for girls´ rights to schooling, and who later won the Nobel Peace Prize.His group -- Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) -- was also behind the massacre of more than 150 people, including more than 100 schoolchidren, at a Peshawar school in December 2014.US forces targeted Fazlullah in a counterterrorism strike on June 14 in Afghanistan´s eastern Kunar province, close to the border with Pakistan.US officials had not confirmed whether the strike was successful but Afghan President Ashraf Ghani later confirmed the killing to Pakistan´s leader and army chief in phone calls.In a statement sent to AFP on Saturday TTP spokesman Mohammad Khurasani confirmed Fazlullah was killed in the US drone strike."It is a matter of pride that all leaders of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have been martyred by infidels," Khurasani said, referring to Fazlullah´s two predecessors who were also killed in drone strikes.The group´s shura council elected Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud to replace him, he added.Pakistan has long been accused of supporting the Afghan Taliban and providing safe haven to its leaders -- charges Islamabad denies. Pakistan, in return, has accused Afghanistan of sheltering the Pakistani Taliban.Pakistan´s has army called Fazlullah´s apparent death a "positive development".The militant leader went into hiding in Afghanistan in 2009 and his death "gives relief to scores of Pakistani families who fell victims to TTP terror including the (school) massacre.

Petition challenging Maryam Nawaz?s entry for PP-173 suspended

A petition challenging Maryam Nawaz’s candidature for Punjab Assembly constituency PP-17 was dismissed by an appellate tribunal in Lahore on Saturday.The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz had her nomination papers for PP-173 challenged, opposing that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader was in possession of two CNICs. The petition was discharged by the appellate tribunal on the basis that it was unacceptable.Maryam will be in the race for the upcoming general elections from National Assembly constituencies NA-125 and NA-127 in Lahore, as well as Punjab Assembly constituency PP-173.During that time, Dr Yasmeen Rashid of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has also challenged the nomination papers of Maryam Nawaz for NA-125, concerning which the petition will be heard by the appellate tribunal today.

PML-N decides not to field candidates against Chaudhry Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided not to field its candidates opposite disgruntled senior party leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. According to a source privy to the development, PML-N wants to keep its door open for Chaudhry Nisar at the behest of President Shehbaz Sharif and other senior leaders.Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to give his green signal to the understanding. PML-N leadership, however, will not award the ticket to Chaudhry Nisar Ali over his refusal to submit a formal application. On the other hand, Chaudhry Nisar has agreed to refrain from criticizing the PML-N’s leadership in public. The former interior minister will be contesting on two national and two provincial assembly seats in the next general elections slated to take place on July 25. In recent months, Chaudhry Nisar has been critical of Maryam Nawaz Sharif's meddling in the party's affairs and PML-N's policy of confrontation with the establishment.
