New Swedish law recognises sex without consent as rape

Stockholm: A tough new law that will recognise sex without explicit consent as rape comes into effect in Sweden on Sunday, after the country was rocked by the #MeToo movement denouncing sexual harassment and assault. The law stipulates that a person has committed rape if they have been part of a sexual act in which the other person has not participated "freely".Rape had previously been defined as a sexual act carried out with the use of violence or threat. Now for someone to face rape charges, "it is no longer necessary that violence or threats were applied, or that the aggressor took advantage of the victim´s particularly vulnerable situation," according to the government. The law says that courts will need to pay particular attention to whether consent was expressed with words, gestures or in another manner, and judges will have to rule on the issue.Judge Anna Hannell, who helped create the law, said there was "absolutely no requirement to formally say ´yes´, to hit a button in an app or anything else of the same type"."Simply participating physically is a sign of consent," she told Swedish news agency TT.More than 7,000 rapes were reported in Sweden last year, a 10 percent increase compared to 2016, latest official figures show.Rape is punishable by up to six years in prison, with a maximum penalty of 10 years if the victim is a minor.

Meanwhile, the former broadcast journalist said that her humor was misunderstood. “My British humour is misunderstood. There are only a couple of men in my family who do not have beards. Responding to  Khan, the mufti said  "I only noticed this "medical" humour because it was MY photo that the sister superimposed herself on to. I had no clue who she was until a few hours ago. So I responded with similar humour".Then she explained to the cleric what  led her to  post the photoshopped picture  ."A political leader was caught doing a sajda ( prostrating )at a holy shrine. I pointed out that it is wrong as we must only do sajda towards the Qibla. Since then the abuse has gone up a level. I can only smile in response. May Allah forgive them.No. I would never dream of doing this. I am currently facing cyber bullying by a political party and they photo shop my pics to abuse & threaten me on a regular basis.I am grateful to the political party who photoshopped my picture & I get a comment from you sir. I am a huge admirer of your gentle preaching style. Please pray for Pakistan. We are going through a very difficult phase."
