Caretaker PM?s name to be finalized on Tuesday

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and leader of opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Friday met here at the PM Chamber to finalize the name of caretaker prime minister.The two leaders had regular consultations in the past to develop a consensus on a suitable candidate.Speaking to media after the meeting, Khursheed Shah said the name of caretaker prime minister would be announced on Tuesday, May 22.Shah said PM Abbasi asked him to have another meeting over the matter following the premier’s return from Turkey. Therefore, it was decided to have consultative meeting on Tuesday, May 22, during which the name of caretaker prime minister would be finalized.Opposition leader was optimistic consensus would be reached on any name for the caretaker prime minister soon.The five-year term of the PML-N government would end on May 31.

Chinese Central Military Commission Vice Chairman visits Naval headquarters

ISLAMABAD: Vice Chairman of Chinese Central Military Commission, General Zhang Youxia visited Naval Headquarters Islamabad and called on Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi.Upon arrival at Naval Headquarters, General Zhang Youxia was received by Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy presented him the guard of honour.General Zhang Youxia called on Chief of the Naval Staff in his office. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including CPEC, as vital part of Belt & Road initiative were discussed. The Naval Chief also highlighted close bilateral ties between Armed Forces of the two countries. Vice Chairman of Chinese Central Military Commission termed Pakistan as China’s all weather strategic partner. Both the dignitaries termed the success of CPEC and related projects as tantamount to prosperity and economic empowerment of the people of the region and beyond.The call was followed by a brief given to the visiting dignitary on Pakistan Navy’s perspective on security situation in Indian Ocean region and PN contributions towards peace and stability in the region. In the second leg of his visit, Vice Chairman of Chinese Central Military Commission is scheduled to visit Pakistan Navy Field Commands at Karachi.The visit is expected to greatly augment the bilateral cooperation between both the countries in general and Defence forces in particular.

'12-year old boy sacrificed his life to save others after bridge collapse in Neelum Valley'

At least 12 people were killed and several others reported missing after a bridge collapsed at a tourist site in Azad Kashmir's Neelum Valley on May 13.As search for the drowned bodies continued in Jagran stream for the third consecutive day on Tuesday, some social media users shared picture of a 12-year old local boy who they said died while saving lives.The most prominent among the Twittrati was Mian Iftikhar Hussain, a senior politician belonging to the Awami National Party (ANP), who posted a tweet in Urdu language paying tribe to the boy who he said drowned while saving lives."We salute 12 years old Saim who retrieved a body from Neelum River, rescued a person and when he jumped into the river to save other people, he was swept away by the waves. Bravo, my child. We salute you for your sacrifice.Dr Huma Saeef, another user with over 12,000 followers on Twitter, has demanded government announce a national award for Saim.She, however, said the teenager died after saving two lives. "This son of a Pakora seller was so brave that he had the courage at the age of 12 years to give his own life to save other people's lives.Replying to Huma Saeef, Khawar S Khawaja wrote he came to know about (the boy) for the first time( through her tweet).Another user said the boy's house was located near the very bridge that collapsed and he had met the him October last year.The News could't independently confirm the statements .The incident took place in Azad Kashmir occurred after over 20 students, mostly from Punjab, gathered on the Jagran bridge collapsed.
