Sindh caretaker cabinet sworn in

Photo Geo NewsKARACHI: A seven-member Sindh caretaker cabinet took oath today.Governor Mohammad Zubair administered the oath at the Governor’s House at a ceremony attended by senior government officials. The cabinet comprises Khair Muhammad Junejo, Jameel Yousif, Dr Junaid Shah, Col (R) Dost Muhammad Chandio, Dr Sadia Rizvi, Simon John Daniel, and former IG Sindh Police Syed Mushtaq Shah.Earlier, all the names proposed for the caretaker cabinet were canceled following strong objections from the opposition parties and some powerful circles.CM Fazl ur Rehman in a media talk has stated that he would prefer a small cabinet.

ISLAMABAD: Former chairman Senate, Muhammad Mian Soomro has joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).Party sources have confirmed the joining of Soomro, however, the former chairman Senate will make formal announcement in coming days.Meanwhile, former Federal Minister Sikandar Bosan is also expected to announce his joining in the PTI in the forthcoming days.Soomro served as the Chairman of the Senate of from 2003 to 2009. He hails from an influential Sindhi feudal family that has been active in national politics since 1923.

NADRA blocks Musharraf?s CNIC

NADRA blocks Musharraf’s CNICIslamabad: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), on the request of ministry of interior, has blocked the computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) of former president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.Sources said with the blockade of CNIC, the passport of Musharraf is automatically suspended and the accounts have been frozen. He has also been deprived of sale and purchase of his more than 10 properties in Pakistan, the sources added.Musharraf owns four plots in Karachi and three properties in Islamabad.The Interior Ministry last week requested Nadra to block the CNIC of Pervez Musharraf on the directives of special court.The Interior Ministry gave a week to Musharraf warning him that his NIC and passport would be blocked if he did not surrender within a week.On March 16 a special court in its written order in a high treason case against Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf directed the Interior Ministry to take steps for the arrest and extradition of the former military dictator from Arab Emirate to Pakistan. Earlier today, the Supreme Court (SC) allowed former president Pervez Musharraf to submit his nomination papers for the upcoming general election with conditions.The apex court also directed the former president to appear before it on June 13 at its Lahore registry and assured him that he won’t be arrested in case of his attendance.

Bilawal to contest general elections from Lyari, Larkana, Malakand

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be contest upcoming general elections from three National Assembly constituencies, sources said Thursday.Geo News reported citing the sources privy to the development that Bilawal will contest general elections 2018 from NA-8 Malakand, NA-200 Larkana and NA-246 Lyari, Karachi.The PPP chairman is expected to file nomination papers for NA-8 Malakand and NA-200 Larkana on Friday, a day after he submitted his nominations paper from NA-246 Lyari.Meanwhile, Bilawal’s younger sister Aseefa will contest elections from NA-202 Larkana.Earlier today, Bilawal submitted his nominations paper to contest from Lyari in the general elections.Bilawal anticipated his participation on Twitter after he submitted papers for a NA-246 placement in the general elections 2018.Speaking to media there, Bilawal pursued that the PPP will take forward Benazir Bhutto’s vision and it will be a great source of happiness for him to serve the Pakistani nation."I am stepping into parliamentary politics. A Bhutto in mainstream politics will strengthen Pakistan’s defence," he said.He was accompanied by Nabil Gabol, Nadia Gabol and other leaders and workers of the party at the time of submission.Later, he paid a surprise visit to the streets of his constituency NA-246 in Lyari, Karachi with party's supporters. ISLAMABAD: Condemning Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal has stated that India is now using new inhuman methods of crushing Kashmiri youth under heavy vehicles.He said that the world community and human rights defenders should take notice of the situation in the occupied valley.In his weekly news briefing here Thursday, the spokesman said “It is highly condemnable that Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) ran a jeep over Kaiser Ahmad, 24 years old, during protests after Friday prayers, who succumbed to injuries in Nowhatta area of Srinagar.”“Indian atrocities in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir are out rightly condemned and need immediate attention of the international community and global human rights defenders”, he added.Replying to a question he said that minorities residing India are being persecuted which is totally contrary to India’s self portrayal of a secular state.Regarding President Mamnoon Hussain visit to China, the spokesman said the President will have sidelines meetings with the leadership of SCO member countries including his Chinese counterpart President Xi Jinping.President Mamnoon will discuss all matters of bilateral relations and ways of enhancing mutual cooperation between the member countries.Commenting on Moscow-Islamabad ties, he said the relationship between Pakistan and Russia are growing positively and it is hoped they will be stronger in future. Sherry Rehman suggests student?s degree be revoked for hate speech

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Sherry Rehman on Wednesday stated that National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) should revoke the degree of a student who suggested columnist Gul Bukhari be tortured sexually.After brief abduction and release of social media activist Gul Bukhari, many people had voiced their support for the victim whereas a user named Mursaleen had tweeted: “Sexual torture would be perfect for this s***.”His comments were caught by lawyer and rights activist Nighat Dad who attached a screenshot of another tweet Mursaleen had had posted saying: “About to graduate, Last Day at NUST #Engineer.”Nighat’s tweet had read: “Mashallah he is graduating today from NUST. And that’s what he said just a day before his graduation. Dangerous things our institutions are producing.”The internet activist’s tweet had soon gone viral and reached Senator Sherry Rehman who retorted suggesting the university revoke the degree of the individual for the hate speech.“Irrespective of whom he is targeting I assume @OfficialNUST will revoke degree and @PTI (which is part of his twitter Identity) will move against such an open call to bloodlust and torture. There must be no impunity, or social or professional tolerance for such heinous hate speech,” Rehman’s tweet had stated.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday allowed former president Pervez Musharraf to submit his nomination papers for the upcoming general election SC allows Musharraf to submit nomination papers with conditions.The apex court also directed the former president to appear before it on June 13 at its Lahore registry and assured him that he wont be arrested in case of his attendance.A three-member bench, headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar resumed the hearing of Musharraf’s review petition against his disqualification by the Peshawar High Court in 2013. During course of proceedings, Qamar Afzal counsel for Musharraf informed the court about deadline of Election Commission of Pakistan to submit nomination papers.However the apex court directed him to submit the nomination papers of his clients with the conditions which would be dependent on outcome of this case.In April 2013, Peshawar High Court disqualified Musharraf for life holding him ineligible to contest elections.A four-member larger bench of the PHC also dismissed Musharraf’s appeal against his disqualification.In the same month, Musharraf’s nomination papers were rejected from all the constituencies he had applied for.His nomination papers for Karachi, Islamabad and Chitral were earlier rejected by the returning officers.He was given a chance to appeal against the decision in the election tribunal, but the appeal was also rejected.
