ECP issues notice to three more politicians for using indecent language

ISLAMABAD: Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Pervaiz Khattak have received a notice from Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for using foul language in their speeches.Soon after the notice was issued, lawyers of these three politicians appeared before the commission where Sadiq’s lawyer assured that the usage of illicit language would be avoided for next time. The politicians were then asked to submit a response regarding the matter right away. The commission also objected on the foul language used by Pervaiz Khattak in his Pashto speech stating that this was never expected from an educated politician like him.Currently, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is also required to submit his response hearing of which is delayed till 9th August.Earlier, the election commission had summoned PTI chief Imran Khan over his alleged use of indecent language against rival political parties and candidates during electioneering. Imran's counselor Babar Awan appeared instead of the Imran Khan himself as he was busy in a political rally in Lahore. Babar Awan termed the usage of donkey as just an ordinary word.

By Fareeha Irfan “Vote for the man who promises least, he’ll be the least disappointing - Bernard Baruch”Everybody is allowed to make choices that they believe is best for Pakistan. Note that I say "best for Pakistan", not yourself, your family, or the road you live on. As July 25 inches closer, the ones who are aged 18 and above would be able to benefit from the right of voting in favor of the individual who they think is truly best for Pakistan.'Why voting matters'Voting is an individual's fundamental right. It puzzles me a great deal when people who can vote don't go out and vote. The plausible reason that pops in my mind is the same that baffles me to an even greater extent: "I am not keen on legislative issues, my vote is never going to have an impact and I have an excessive number of more imperative responsibilities as opposed to remaining in line to cast my vote.’’Additionally, voting is one of the obligations of a citizen. It is in a similar fashion as jury obligation is, then for what logical reason would you not exercise your right to vote to at least have a say in who is going to represent you?Even in war-torn Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq during elections, people stood up in the face of turmoil and mayhem, voted in favor of their nation and beat the terrorists.'What to consider'Try not to trust each battle. Hopefuls lie, in some cases accidentally, here and there incredibly. One needs to weed out the liars and the exaggerators. Uncovering falsehoods guarantees that the individuals who weave networks of deceits don’t win the day. Prime minister is elected not crowned. Some get kicked out of the chance to feel that we don’t bother with whatever is left in the world, however we do. The world is substantially littler than we at any point thought conceivable, and all countries are battling shared adversaries like a worldwide temperature alteration, psychological warfare, well-being emergencies and starvation. A candidate must be firm when the event calls for it, yet open to the trading of thoughts, from wherever they may come. We as voters cannot wind up settled in light of a single issue. It's about time we make somebody the leader of our nation for the next 5 years, and voting maybe the most essential act. Hence, simply turn up at polling stations on the 25th of this month and avail your right to vote!

Student-turned-entrepreneur Sania drives rickshaw to achieve her dreams

Sania was heartbroken when her father, 42 year old Muhammad Ijaz, told her he couldn’t afford to drop her to school every day. The journey to school meant he had to close his shop during the time when customers were most likely to visit and it meant losing out on business. Ijaz, who does stitching and embroidery work, was already struggling to make ends meet and could not afford this added burden.Determined to stay in school, Sania didn’t know she would change her life when she asked her father to buy her a rickshaw. What is more amazing than Sania’s indomitable spirit is the fact that her father agreed and reached out to Awami Development Organization for a loan.For her determination and valour, Sania won the Young Microentrepreneur (Female) Award at the 12thCiti Micro-entrepreneurship Awards (CMAs), delivered in partnership by the Citi Foundation and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF). To be eligible for the Citi – PPAF Micro-entrepreneurship awards, an individual must have benefited from an affordable loan from responsible finance providers, and must have contributed to the local economic growth in the community, province or city they operate in.Speaking at the award ceremony the young resident of Noshehra Thal Kalan in District Layyah shared her story with the audience, “When I told my father I don’t want to quit school, he didn’t scold or discourage me, he told me I could go if I can think of a solution. I told him if he buys a rickshaw for me I could not only drive myself to school and back, I could make money by picking up other children on the way charging them a small fee.”Sania was taught how to ride a motor bike when she was quite young and this helped her learning to drive a rickshaw. “The first rickshaw my father brought was second-hand and used to breakdown often, leaving us stranded on the road. And even though I learned how to fix small mechanical issues, some children were hesitant to go with me. Eventually, we sold that old rickshaw and bought a new one, and the children (passengers) were happier too.” The young entrepreneur, who dreams of becoming a doctor one day, makes enough money to finance her own and her three siblings' education. It is inevitable that Sania faced disapproval. Her answer to the doubts is simple. “I trust God and leave everything to him.” Sania’s tenacity and refusal to bow down to society’s expectations of what girls should and should not do have not only made her popular in her neighborhood, the young student has won prizes; she is a recipient of Prime Minister’s shining star award twice. A short film was made on her life to share her story with other aspiring entrepreneurs. This recognition has boosted her social and economic status to a great extent, but more importantly, Sania, now 17-year-old, is a positive role model and inspiration for young girls around Pakistan.

US: Nine family members among 17 dead in 'duck boat' tragedy

CHICAGO: Nine members of one family were among 17 people killed when a US tourist boat capsized during a sudden storm on a Missouri lake, relatives told US media on Friday, with accusations they were told there´d be no need for life jackets.The accident occurred Thursday night in full view of witnesses, at least one of whom captured video of the amphibious vessel bobbing in rough waters on Table Rock Lake near the city of Branson, a popular holiday destination. "My heart is very heavy. Out of 11 of us there´s only two that´s surviving, that´s me and my nephew" Tia Coleman, her voice breaking, told Fox59 from her hospital bed."I lost all of my children. I lost my husband. I lost my mother-in-law and my father-in-law," along with other relatives, she told the Indianapolis TV station.Coleman said the boat´s captain had told passengers earlier in their trip that they "won´t need" life jackets."He said it when we were in the water," she told Fox59. "When it was time to grab them, it was too late and I believe that a lot of people could have been spared."She added that the water "didn´t look ominous at the very first."The New York Times quoted another relative, Carolyn Coleman, as saying three generations of the Indianapolis family, including four children, died.They had rented a van and travelled to Branson for their annual road trip, she told the newspaper.Police said 31 people were aboard the vessel, known as a duck boat for its wheels that allow it to ride on land and float low on the water.The hybrid nature of such craft has previously raised safety questions.The boat was seen struggling to reach shore against strong winds, before succumbing to the waves and beginning to sink. The dead ranged in age from one to 70 years of age, and included the boat´s driver, according to the Stone County Sheriff´s office. He was one of two crew, US media reported. The other, who survived, was in charge when the craft owned by Ripley Entertainment company took to the water.Several people were injured.

Hanif Abbasi awaits judgement in ephedrine case after lawyer completes argument

RAWALPINDI: A Control of Narcotics Substances Court (CNSC), Rawalpindi, judge Muhammad Akram Khan on Saturday reserved judgment in ephedrine case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hanif Abbasi.The decision was reserved after his lawyer completed arguments in the court where the accused was also present .. The judge said he would pronounced the judgement within the next three to four hours. The judge on Friday rejected PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi’s request to extend the trial deadline in the case.The judge decided to strictly follow the orders of the apex court and high court to conclude the ephedrine case today (Saturday).Former MNA Hanif Abbasi and 10 others are accused in the ephedrine quota case. Hanif Abbasi was accused of misappropriating 500kg of the controlled chemical ephedrine, obtaining it in 2010, and selling it to narcotics smugglers. All requests of Hanif Abbasi about delay in concluding the ephedrine case only by 10 days have been rejected.
